hot breakfast
Having a hot breakfast each morning before school is something we do in our house. My mom made yummy breakfasts everyday when I was growing up and of course I attempt to be like my mom in most every way possible. At the start of the school year, the kids were informed that Tuesday would now be cold cereal day so I could attend the temple at 5am. Nobody complained. Not once. Last week was a little nuts and I didn't have things as organized as needed. The result was I had to prep dinner in the morning in lieu of making breakfast. I was preparing myself for the onslaught of disappointed looks and complaints (I still recall vividly the disappoint that ensued when I served donuts one time on cinnamon roll day). Turns out these amazing kids are maturing and there wasn't one complaint or rolled eye. They simply fixed themselves a bowl of cereal and that was that. There may have been a brief thought in my head that we should just have cold cereal everyday and I could save myself a lot of time. That thought quickly vanished when I envisioned our mornings together. Breakfast time is wonderful. A great time to sit around the table together eating a yummy meal. Not to mention catching up on our ESPN for the day :) I do believe it's the perfect start to our day and I am grateful to my mom for instilling this tradition in me.

Passed the two year divorce mark and I feel like I have my head above water most days. I have a very strong desire to not be known as the "divorced/single" girl in my work, church, and neighborhood circles and I feel that can only happen if I choose to not let my marital status define me. Instead of thinking about how my family is not the one of my childhood dreams, I must remember all that it still is. To help me with this, I had family pictures done with our new family dynamic. Wanting us all to embrace that we are still a family and have much to be thankful for. Thanks to Liz Peebles for the wonderful job.
rekindled motivation
I have been reading the biography of Henry B Eyring and it has rekindled my desires to be an avid journal writer. Much of his book is taken from the pages of his journal. He also printed his journals for his children. I want to use my blog as a means of recording the everyday events of my life. Most days are mundane and rather exhausting. However, within this "daily grind", there are always wonderful moments as well if I choose to look for them. Days come and go and it is easy to forget. Life moves quickly and changes are all about me... and I want it recorded.
