mitchel's birthday.

Mitchel is 8! Hardly seems possible that he is 8 or maybe it hardly seems possible to me that I have 4 children and my second just turned 8. Its not that I have a problem being 32, Its more like I feel so inadequate, so not wise enough to parent these children as they get older. I can do the infant/toddler thing, but these school age kids. man, I feel so ignorant sometimes. So like no matter how hard I try I often go to bed feeling like I didn't do it quite right or quite the way i had envisioned. Please tell me I'm not the only mom feeling like this...

We celebrated a day early with dinner at my parents followed by cupcakes and presents. Dinner was his choice and so we feasted on french toast, bacon and sausage. He received a new bike from my parents and was very excited by that. Best part - the bike is green. We gave him MarioKart for the Wii, some extra wii wheels, a card game, a kick ball and a bank/atm thing that he has wanted for a really long time. and his cousins the hormans, gave him a really awesome frisbee, that is, you got it, green.

Initially he was disappointed. I could see it in his eyes. he really had his heart set on an Ipod, but I just couldn't go for that quite yet.

However, after playing kickball and frisbee for an hour at grandma's he was starting to feel better. By the time we got home and played a few rounds of mariokart he was even happier. The next morning when he "deposited" money into his bank and it gave him his balance, he was again happier. So, it all turned out well in the end.

Then on Saturday, his actual birthday, Josh took Mitchel and Justin to the theater to see Narnia 2. Going to movies in the theater is always fun for my boys. Something we don't do too often and is always looked forward to. The boys actually love to watch movie trailers and "dream' about future movies they could maybe see in the theater. They have been following this movie from the very beginning and were thrilled when it kept its PG rating so they could attend.

I think he has ridden his bike, played frisbee and mariokart non-stop this weekend. He has been happy. I have been happy. Life is good.

Happy Birthday Mitchel!!!

Hey Kim, is it okay if I send Jaina to live with you guys when she turns 8? Older kids scare me! I only know how to parent the younger ones! I'm not ready for her to turn 6 this week! :)
