Last school year Ashley became really good friends with a little girl in our neighborhood and ward. She is a grade younger than Ashley, but they are in the same primary class. Thanks to Liz's willingness to baby-sit Ashley two afternoons a week, Ashley and Kaylie became best of friends. They played together all the time. They seemed to like to play the same things and I was so happy to see Ashley having a best friend. I still remain in touch with the best friend I made while in Kindergarten ( I still remember those play-dates Steph!). Since school has stated up, Ashley doesn't ask quite as often to play with Kaylie. They still play together on occasion but Ashley has also had some other play-dates.
The other afternoon she and I had the following conversation.
Mom: Why don't you play with Kaylie as much anymore? Do you have a new best friend?
Ashley: No. Who do you like more, Kaylie's mom or Emmaline's mom?
Mom: I couldn't pick one. I like them both. I am glad to have both of them for friends.
Ashley: See mom. Picking just one friend to like the best is hard.
Mom: You don't have to have just one friend you like the best. You can like as many friends as you want and you can like them all the same.
Ashley: smiling and relieved. Thanks Mom.
Man I love this girl.

Cute girls, I'm a little biased because one is my niece and one has my name but still cute. I love these little conversations. Its fun to get to see them learning new things and putting things together as they grow up.
:) that is so cute... and actually a very cute concept. this is what great short stories and picture books are made of. oh, and epic, thousand page love stories too.
come on... i'm your favorite right? JUST KIDDING!!! what a cute post :) the conversations we have with elliana have changed so much now that she is in kindergarten! i did not think there would have been such a change since this is her 4th year there. but i guess going full days means that a lot more happens and with the mature age of 5 approaching us on halloween - the issues have grown as well.
Oh, I remember those days too and can't believe I'm getting to the same stage with Hayden. My best friend was a whole lot nicer than Hayden's current "best friend"! :)
Steph
